This well sits beside a large natural sheltered magical valley in the south side of Knocknarea. The Glen was potentially formed by a fault-line in the mountain while the glaciers were sculpting the landscape during the last ice age.
This glen/valley is near the sacred hill of Knocknarea where the ancient queen Maeve of Ireland is buried on top. There is archaeological evidence that suggests our ancestors carved rock from this glen thousands of years ago to use as Dolmen tombs across County Sligo, Ireland.
This essence is all about love and balance, self acceptance and intimacy. There is a connection to deep grief with oneself and a compassion within this. It helps to balance within one almost where we are as a society: antisocial, withdrawn, critical and judgmental, lonely and isolated. Unacknowledged grief, arising from divorce, death, loveless environments, conditional love and betrayal are all things that can lead us to believe in this lack within oneself.

The Hawaii waters are light and effervescent and sparkly, a very light essence in all its meanings.

Nemnach – Hill of Tara – Ireland
The site of this water collection is from a well called Nemnach (same root as nemeton, a sacred space of ancient Celtic times) at south foot of the Hill Tara – a truly pagan spring in a clump of whitethorn. Reputed to be the site of a Sídh-mound and also the place where Cormaic Mac Airt, king of Tara, had the first water mill inbuilt for Ciarnait. From it flows a stream called Níth (possibly from Sanskrit, ‘washed, purified’) which feeds into the Gabhra river which in turn feeds the River Boyne.
This water as an essence is the embodiment of fertility, not only in the sense of conception but also it’s the ability to enhance inner vitality in it’s deep elemental connection to the land and waters. This water was collected while traveling with the Land Arts of the American West Program, as part of the University of NewMexico’s Art & Ecology Program. At that time the artists of Land Arts were staying with the Dine people and had the great fortune of getting to work with and learn from indigenous elders and educators.
While there, we learned of an environmental catastrophe that occurred in August 2015, when workers from the US Environmental Protection Agency mistakenly punctured a holding tank of mine tailings at the Gold King Mine in Silverton, Colorado, releasing over 3 million gallons of toxic waste into the Animas River, a tributary of the San Juan River that runs through Navajo Nation and nourishes all aspects of life. The spill greatly damaged the environment, as the released waste contained thousands of pounds of dangerous and highly toxic heavy metals.
The impact was felt deeply by the local indigenous Diné people, who not only rely on the San Juan River for drinkingand crop irrigation but also view water as a living being integral to their community and way of life. As farms went fallow and losses accrued on the Navajo Nation, their very spiritual belief system and world view were compromised because they were not able to use water from the river.

Civaux, the waters taken on the northwest bank of the river Vienne just at the entrance to the village. Civaux is an ancient Celtic/pagan shrine and pilgrimage site (Rue de La Biche) and just north of the ancient Roman town of Lussac Les Chateaux which is surrounded my Mesolithic, Neolithic, Magdelenien and Neanderthal cave, ritual, and living sites. These have been overlaid by ancient shrines to Celtic goddesses, Roman goddesses, and then to Christ. The site at Civaux was just this, a celtic, then Roman and then a Christian religious site. The Church at Civaux contains one of the few representations of the Melusine herself. In the 1980s the site was selected as the site for a large nuclear reactor/power plant, as a quiet waterside village (the river water is used to help cool the twin towers), and to everyone’s astonishment, a huge cemetery, built-in Merovingian times: the third and 4th centuries AD was, uncovered. Over 4 km long and with in excess of 4,000 stone sarcophagi. A staggering site. As an addition to the nuclear power station, a crocodile farm and aquatic center with 50-meter diving pool was additionally built also utilising the abundance of hot water from the towers. It is indeed an awesome site.
